Matrix model for methamphetamine
treatment
There are many
treatment plans available for addicts. One that has been proven
successfully over the past decade is the Matrix model for
treatment. It has been developed in the nineteen eighty's to render
treatment for the growing number of cocaine addicts.
It has been deemed successful and thus other forms of this
matrix model were used to treat other addictions such as alcohol
and methamphetamine.
The matrix model for methamphetamine treatment utilizes
empirically based treatment targeting methamphetamine users. It is
the only specific treated noted by the National Institute for Drug
Abuse as a scientifically based approach.
The current matrix model for methamphetamine program consists of
relapse prevention groups, educational groups, social support
groups, individual counseling (3 one hour individual in fifty two
weeks and urine and breath tests.
This program has fifty two week duration. This matrix model for
methamphetamine treatment takes a non confrontational approach
focusing on current issues and behavioral changes.
This program's
group meeting is guided by documented sessions that cover specific
topics. Since meth users are also addicted to other substances such
as alcohol, there are sessions that are designed to deal with the
treatment of these other addictions as well.
These sessions focus on social support systems, relapse
prevention, family education, and the twelve step program.
Several researches have made satisfactory remarks about the
program and its ability to help methamphetamine addicts.
The Matrix Model for methamphetamine treatment was evaluated in
a randomized, controlled study funded by the Center for Substance
Abuse Treatment with over one thousand methamphetamine users in a
national multisite trial.
In this project the Matrix Model for methamphetamine treatment
was adapted for use specifically with a methamphetamine addicted
patient population. The treatment response by methamphetamine users
to the Matrix Model was found to be more effective than the other
treatment methods available.
This Matrix Model for methamphetamine treatment has been
successfully used in clinical practice with a variety of patients
of every race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, creed and gender.
