Crystal Meth Statistics
Crystal meth is the illegal form of methamphetamine drugs that is sold on the
streets. It is
a highly addictive and potentially fatal drug.
It works on the central nervous system and causes the release of norepinephrine and dopamine, two potent
neurotransmitters.
These neurotransmitters stimulate the receptors in the brain to produce the common effects that are associated
with crystal meth use.
Over the past decade there has been numerous research conducted on the use of illicit drugs and today much
needed crystal meth statistics has been available.
The use of crystal meth dawn back into the late 60s but because of numerous successful campaigns this drug was
clear off the streets in the 70's.
However in the early 1990's the market for crystal meth reopened and today it

has grown tremendously, and the fight to curb this potential epidemic has been proven futile.
In 2005, the National survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) released their crystal meth statistics that noted
that
10.4 million people 12 years and over have tried meth at least once in their lifetime.
Approximately 1.3 million reported using meth over between the year 2004 - 2005 and 512,000 reported using meth
within the last month this meth statistic was taken.
The United Nations also disclaimed that the use of meth has become of international concern since it is the
number 2 most widely used illegal drug worldwide.
There is increase usage among young adults and is commonly associated with those who attend private clubs and
parties.
The homeless and gay populations have also recorded high stats when it comes to using crystal meth.
This increase in use of meth, particularly intravenously, has been associated with the widespread of HIV / AIDS
in this highly susceptible population.
