Crystal Meth
Statistics
Crystal meth is the illegal form of methamphetamine drugs that
is sold on the streets. It is a highly addictive and potentially
fatal drug.

It works on
the central nervous system and causes the release of norepinephrine
and dopamine, two potent neurotransmitters.
These neurotransmitters stimulate the receptors in the brain to
produce the common effects that are associated with crystal meth
use.
Over the past decade there has been numerous research conducted
on the use of illicit drugs and today much needed crystal meth
statistics has been available.
The use of crystal meth dawn back into the late 60s but because
of numerous successful campaigns this drug was clear off the
streets in the 70's.
However in the early 1990's the market for crystal meth reopened
and today it has grown tremendously, and the fight to curb this
potential epidemic has been proven futile.
In 2005, the National survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH)
released their crystal meth statistics that noted that 10.4 million
people 12 years and over have tried meth at least once in their
lifetime.
Approximately
1.3 million reported using meth over between the year 2004 - 2005
and 512,000 reported using meth within the last month this meth
statistic was taken.
The United Nations also disclaimed that the use of meth has
become of international concern since it is the number 2 most
widely used illegal drug worldwide.
There is increase usage among young adults and is commonly
associated with those who attend private clubs and parties.
The homeless and gay populations have also recorded high stats
when it comes to using crystal meth.
This increase in use of meth, particularly intravenously, has
been associated with the widespread of HIV / AIDS in this highly
susceptible population.
